Essay: Better Than Ever? ..Believe it or not, Canadian TV is in a Golden Age (no date given, unfortunately). From the The Great Canadian Guide to the Movies (and TV), which includes listings, reviews, and essays about different shows (yes, Lexx is included).

Judging from the shows mentioned, and the phase some of them are in, I'd say this essay is about two years old ... maybe a couple of months newer. But I agree with it wholeheartedly; the last decade has been a golden age for Canadian-produced television ... it seems as if the CRTC has dropped the "must-have-the-CN Tower-in-the-background-of-every-shot-or-else-must-contain-a-Mountie/maple leaf/beaver dam" mentality that dragged our television and film industry down for decades, thus allowing Canadian production companies to make GOOD shows, instead of making CANADIAN shows. Plus, thanks to growing cable/satellite networks, there are more international sales, giving us a higher profile (word of mouth on the Internet is helping as well). 'tis so nice to be recognized for something worthwhile. :-)
