Joseph Campbell, etc
Feb. 6th, 2002 04:49 pmBeen listening to the book on tape of "Hero with 1000 Faces" today. Very interesting, if something of an information overload.
Interesting observation: whoever is reading the book on tape has a particular tone that reminds me of the sermons I had to endure as a kid being dragged along to church by my parents. I always used to fall asleep in church, and as I got older and was able to stay awake I usually got irritated at what I viewed as thinly veiled pious propoganda. Whenever this guy reads Bible quotes in Old English I find myself getting irritable and tired... Pavlov at work here, certainly.
Or maybe just the whole concept of "religion=irritability" is fresh in my mind because the Jehovah's Witlesses that I've seen around my neighborhood finally came to our door last night. D. handled them, but I am irritated that they showed up at all. (How many times I have I said "irritated" here? Proof that I am tired and can't think of any other more interesting adjectives to use). After a long day at work I don't like the doorbell to ring unless its a package or food delivery, so this silliness was really not welcome.
I am going to go home and lay down for a bit. Drilling away on the computer all day has made my shoulders tired and sore.
