Sep. 18th, 2004 11:22 amTrying to check with the autocrat for next weekend's symposium - my registration check never cleared and I want to know Just What The Deal Is.
I can always pay at the door, but I was hoping to save some overall travel expenses by having food on site paid for, plus the proceedings of the symposium (learning materials, whee!)
Classes are looking bigger, better, stronger - I see that Irish/Scottish costuming, patten-making, Eastern costuming, and hair/headwear classes have been added since I last checked in. Also something called "Presenting Costume Research: Articles and Conferences", which I will almost certainl never need to know, but.. you never know...

Update 5:40 pm Autocrat got back to me - I AM registered, they're just shifting paperwork around and wanted to wait until they were organized before running to the bank. I'm IN :)

Date: 2004-09-18 08:53 am (UTC)An impressive array of classes indeed! Which ones are you going to attend?
(was looking at knitting in the round and thinking that that's what I need ... my attempts are accompanied by the regular clatter of needles hitting the ground ... I swear that they actually wiggle to get themselves out of the stitches ***grin***)

Date: 2004-09-18 02:10 pm (UTC)I have to confess - I've never tried knitting or crocheting. I always kind of saw those as my sister's thing and I didn't want to jump into her world, so to speak. I take it you're struggling with knitting in the round?

Date: 2004-09-18 03:26 pm (UTC)Because I hate hand sewing, the seaming of knitted sections is my least favourite bit (and they DO have to be done by hand ... I've experimented with the sewing machine and it just ain't the same). Knitting in the round (which is the older technique ... the 2-needle back-and-forth is quite recent) means NO SEAMS!!!! Or very few, anyway ... I have one cardigan that only has seams from wrist to underarm! Body sections can be worked on a circular needle, but for sleeves and other small pieces, the old four-needle technique is best. I just need to settle down and practice, practice, practice!!!! ... that cardigan would have been 100% seamless if I had had that skill mastered! :P
I'll have to unearth my yarn stash this winter, flip through my pattern books, etc., and see where inspiration strikes!
