Tonight D. and I played Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. I kicked his ass - or rather gently prodded :P We are both such long-time SW geeks that it's always a close game.

Two of my lifelong loves are Star Wars and Trivial Pursuit. The former: I can't remember a time when there wasn't Star Wars; the first movie came out when I was around 3 and I knew most of the lines in it by around age 8. I remember one summer vacation in Florida where the highlight was not the beach, the putt-putt or other touristy stuff, but getting to see "Empire" in the theater (gasp!) twice!

Dad was a VCR "early adopter", and I think A New Hope was one of the first things he taped. For years my sister and I watched that scratchy, "resized to fit the screen" copy to death, playing with our action figures (no, they aren't worth ANYTHING now, they're so worn out - those were some well loved toys :P). I think it wasn't until the early '90s when Dad got a fresh copy that we realized that thing in the background during the Tattoine scenes was a skeleton!

And of course, needless to say, I saw all three opening night when they were reissued before Episode I. Greedo still shouldn't have shot first :P

The latter - I've always had the dubious ability to remember useless information. I routinely forget my own passwords/PIN numbers, but can still tell you the names of chimpanzees Jane Goodall studied in Tanzania (Flo, Frodo, Fifi, Faben, Mr. McGregor, Pom, Passion, etc.) Trivial Pursuit was and is the only thing I'm really competitive about, where I really care whether I'm doing well or not - no, not even fencing can touch the great need I have for that one... last... pie piece! Most memorable game: against my sister's advanced placement classmates in high school. I wasn't AP so they thought I'd be an easy defeat. Little did they know the spongelike powers of my grey matter for such minutaie as where most Sikhs in India live (Punjab province) :P

D. lost gracefully tonight, but I'll make up for it. I really did want to give him a snog tonight, but alas, I've got a sore throat, so he'll have to wait ;)

So I sit here with a cup of hot tea and an echinacea....

I love to play Trivial Pursuit, and I confess standing over the SW version at SciFi bokhandeln down in Stockholm *drooling*.

whisky, for your sore throat, preferably high land singel malt, like Lagavulin or Bowmore ;)
