more fashion lust

Got this catalog in the mail over the weekend and finally flipped through. It's mostly basics, but I found a couple of gems (like this and this [also this, but I'd choose a different tapestry.]).

I definitely don't need to be shopping right now - I can't afford it and I truly don't NEED anything. I do find myself turning over in my mind how I'd make these things, though - somehow, if it's something I make I can convince myself it's not frivolous because I actually learn something during the process.

And then again, I need to look at patterns like a hole in my head as well - I have a huge backlog of styles I fall hopelessly in love with... every time I see the pattern. If I don't look, I don't remember and can therefore resist temptation.

I swear, I've got to figure out a way to eliminate sleep from my schedule so I can get some serious sewing done. I've not yet found a (legal) way to do this, so I'm trying to do an hour a night. Wish me luck!

Re: the Edwardian jacket, IIRC someone posted last year(ish) on a.g.f. about having bought it and finding that it's not nearly as much of a cutaway front as it appears in the catalog. Disappointing, as I've been drooling over it for more than a year.

Good to know, if only because it doesn't make the jacket so tempting! Also good to know that it may still be around if I choose to give in one day ;)

What a shame. It's gorgeous in the pic!

Also, I've always wanted a tapestry blazer like that but I also want seriously ruffled sleeves at the wrists poking out. That doesn't sound like I mean, but I suspect you'll figure it out.

if it makes you feel better

I have had trouble with Newport News in the past.

They used to have really neat inexpensive stuff. Now nearly everything in there has to be drycleaned and it's not very well made. My last pair of pants from there fell apart in less than 3 months with normal wear and washing.
