anotheranonFinally saw this movie that numerous friends have oohed and ahhed over for ages. I did enjoy it, but true to form I wasn't as impressed as everyone else.
Yes, yes - it does present something of a lovely submissive fantasy. The writers did a good job of expressing the secretary's point of view, and you can see how the character changes through the movie.
I'm at something of a loss regarding James Spader's character though. He really works for some people in this film, but I don't see it - maybe his blushing nice guy character from "Stargate" just ruins him as a credible dom for me. That, and Edward Grey seems so conflicted about what he's doing, but we never get an explanation why - I get the impression his character is never really relishing the spanking; it's more like it's something he does out of compulsion rather than desire - not hot, IMHO.
Still, some interesting scenarios and an arty contemplation of strength through submission. Not bad.
