Monica Ferris' "Needlecraft Mysteries" series - I've not read any but it looks like a series of novels with punny names set in a Minnesota yarn shop, Crewel World.

pirate (lack of) progress: the hem
Aug. 31st, 2011 09:28 pmOne would think that having recovered from my sizing snafu that finishing would be smooth sailing. No such luck. The hem just won't even out.
Maybe it's my uneven shoulders, or the bias edges of the gores, but I've been futzing with the hem for almost 2 weeks (!) and I'm not there YET. Always the gores seem to dip either higher or lower than the rest, and they must be even as the movement of the coat "skirts" means I can't guarantee the gores will pitch outwards or tuck in.
As of right now I've got it on my dress form hemmed ~15-15 1/2" off the floor all the way around. I'm going to look at it again tomorrow but I'm almost at the point of "hell with it - close enough".
On the plus side, I've repurposed one of my steamers as a dress mold base, which has been unstable since one of the legs snapped off, oh....2? 3 years? ago. If it's sturdy enough I might use the dress mold as a target again.
Or I might aim at it just because I'm irritated at the )*!()I#! hem....
