embracing the suck a little too tightly
Jun. 27th, 2011 09:33 pmYesterday was my first competition since earning the E. It was also my first open (all levels welcome) in awhile, with lots of Big Scary People(TM).
I've come to accept that at events like this I'm likely to be the pool's buttmonkey, but was a little too accepting: I was relaxed but not alert. The under-stimulation was a nice change from my usual inner dialog (ably put to poetry at Badgerosity, especially the bit about kids who have no right to be that good), but not especially effective.
Managed to get my head online enough to get 3 touches (one of them intelligent) against a tall fast B in my direct elimination bout, but it was very much too little, too late.
I've spent so much time this season chasing my rating at D and under events that I've forgotten what open events are like. I should probably get back into that.
