Things I can control in a bout:

  • My distance
  • My line
  • My patience

Things I can't control, but try to anyway:
  • My parry
  • My riposte
  • My counterattack
  • Anything my opponent is doing

V. wore me down at the end of my lesson tonight in the hopes that I'd rely on instinct, but when I'm at the end of my rope I go to my default of overthinking. Paradoxically, I can only get into "the zone" when I'm not zoning out. I really need to learn to let things go/trust intuition/embrace inner zombie/use the Force/[insert metaphor of choice] while exhausted.

AND, to use the element of surprise in my attacks and counterattacks. Without thinking inside the bout (strategizing is for before and after).

This is going to take some work.
