Nothing stings quite like knowing what you need to do, yet failing to execute.

The scenario: I was in direct elimination against a woman I lost to in pools 5-1. She did the same thing repeatedly, and had poor form doing it - she was warned and ultimately carded for covering target.

So, I tried to do what V. has been coaching me on for the past month - fence to touch, diagnose effective strategy, test.

Problem: when test fails first time, I'm not sure whether it's 1) the wrong solution or 2) the right solution executed wrong. In this instance, it was the right solution, but it took me 11 touches to correctly sort out distance and timing to make it work.

Once it worked, boy howdy, did it ever - I got 5 touches in quick succession, but given how damn long it took me to iron everything out, she was too far ahead for me to win.

The problem for that bout wasn't stamina - I was actually pretty alert and not physically tired/sore. It was my slowness in sorting out details. Part of competing (at least for me) is learning to evaluate and plot a solution within the short time alotted, and I still can't manage to do this.

I could scream and tear my hair but this would do not good. Nonetheless it burns me that I knew the answer and couldn't spit it out :/
