Coming 2 days late (of course!)
It occurred to me while getting dressed for C.'s party that though I costume a lot, very little of what I make lends itself to Halloween festivities. Half of my things are historic costume best appreciated by other costume history nrrds and the other half are costumes from cult tv shows that the rest of humanity has never seen.
I had considered wearing my tailcoat/tux and seeing how many explanations I could come up with* (Undertaker. Orchestra conductor. Marlene Dietrich on a bad hair day) but in the end I wore my Firefly vest. I still had to explain myself as "space cowgirl"** :/
The state of D.'s costume wardrobe inspires a bit of shame. There are many things I want to make for him, but have little impetus to do so as the only time of year he really needs or wants a costume is Halloween. Still, the next thing he has requested is a
leine. I got the fabric and pattern over a year ago; if I start soon he might have it by next summer :P
*Halloween aside, it's nice to have a tux, just for the versatility. The coat dresses up jeans; the pants dress up a t shirt. Add spats and a top hat, it's Victorianesque. Add gears and it's steampunk.
**Castle fans see what I did there :P
