For those of you bewildered by some of my historic fencing posts, Higgins Armory Sword Guild has several step-by-step fight demos with accompanying slow-motion video for 17th century rapier and 18th century smallsword, among others.

These illustrate what goes on FAR better than I can describe it! Of course, I fence with blunt weapons and a mask because I like my eyes, thanks :P

bad habits

As if you haven't had enough:

Figured out tonight that the reason I do such shallow lunges is because I'm afraid of losing my balance. Practicing footwork on dusty floors this past fall only reinforced this reluctance to really spring forward. I will have to work on this, in the right shoes on a good surface (linoleum?) to break this bad habit.

Discovered how to make practice targets - hang embroidery hoops from the ceiling.

Also learned that the smallsword is shipping out this weekend, instead of the projected ~3 weeks from now, whee!

Yes, I know there are events of greater import going on in the world right now, and at some nebulous future point I'll try and speak on them.

Right now, I'm going to see if I can get to lights out before midnight for the first time this week :P
