intelligence quizzes, from zen4me )

Ironic, because I feel like I have almost no intelligence today. Was smacked in the head with Surprise Expenses that I'm convinced I should have anticipated and freaked out a bit.

Had a good day yesterday with J., my widely traveled (and traveling) college friend. We hit Natural history and then hung out here for awhile, watching strange tv and frightening my cats (J. managed to pick them both up, probably because they don't know him and can't read his mind. They were not amused :P)

I've got some writing and phone calls to catch up on, but still don't feel quite fit for human consumption. Going to go have a hot chocolate and work on the venetians pattern for a bit and see if I feel ready to re-join the world.

more Bond

So, more about "Casino Royale":

I grew up on the 1980s Roger Moore incarnation of Bond. For the life of me, I can't remember the plot of a any of the movies, but they weren't really the point - it was about Moore loving up women, shooting things, and quipping. I enjoyed Bond films for a glimpse of the refined, "grown-up" life demonstrated in any number of Duran Duran videos :P

The blatant sexism of the movies didn't bother me much either. As has been rightly pointed out, Bond always treated women like "disposable toys", but partly because of my youth and partly because, well, I figured he was a spy and therefore in the business of using just about everyone, it just didn't seem that odd. That, and I had a weird thing going on as a kid where I didn't identify with the women on screen as I did with the main character, so I didn't really identify that the women getting shot, used, handed to the bad guys, etc. had anything that had to do with me.

However, it did kinda bother me that Bond was made out to be this hot stud and we didn't really get to see much of him. The hyper-glamorous women in the films aren't really my type (though I'm all about Michelle Yeoh and Diana Rigg [admittedly this shot is from "The Avengers", but come on! I couldn't resist posting D.R. in fetish gear of her own design!]), but with rare exceptions he was always clad in a proper suit, or, more glamorously, tux (I thought that Pierce Brosnan had forever demonstrated in "Tomorrow Never Dies" that Bond has no business wearing sneakers). Which is all well and good but in my old age I've become a dirty old woman - I want to see some skin :P

The wait is over. Even bigger treat: in one scene he's tied up, which some of ya'll know, floats my boat real well :) Best treat of all: The actor wants a gay Bond scene. Because, after all, Bond's a spy. He's gotta be prepared to pump anyone for information, yanno? ;)

We'll never see it of course, but what actor(s) would y'all like to see as a "Bond boy"?
