faire, garb, etc.
Oct. 2nd, 2006 10:05 pmYesterday was the perfect day to get out to the local renfest: 70F, not a cloud in the sky, slight breeze, just wonderful :)
D. and I people watched and made the rounds of people watching, etc. In my peasant gear (now possibly elevated to "middle class" gear with the addition of heavily blackworked partlet) I'm one of the least glamorous attendees but at least I'm comfortable :P Still, it would be nice to put together a new hat or apron or something for next year.
My inner costume snob is also a bit embarrassed that I haven't done good garb for D. - he doesn't care but costume nrrds just can't have their dudes going around in [gasp!] modern clothing! I'm thinking Irish. Or Thomas More-type academic gear (though he'd melt in it). Or maybe full on proper Mongolian, not the ersatz/halfway Mongolian I made for him 4 years ago :/
We did indeed eat food on stakes and looked at very pretty but utterly impractical swords (but they were SOOOO beautiful! Me loves steel, I do). Saw part of the Medieaval Baebes show - I enjoyed what I was able to hear but either the soundsystem was weak or my hearing is worse than I thought :P D.'s back gave out after about 3 hours, which, considering his track record for the past couple of weeks has been 1-2 hours sitting at a time, was something of a record :/ Saw
vree briefly on the way out (talk about cool hat!)
Got home, showered, and ordered pizza because for some reason walking around in beautiful weather for several hours made me ravenously hungry! Worked on the doublet, tacking thick/layered selvedges over with my new favorite stitch (It's strong! It's purty! It works around curves!) It's mostly hand sewing from here on out, so if anyone has any tips for how to avoid hand cramps I'm all ears - my best time is about 1 1/2 hours before stiffness sets in.
First day of new job: strikingly similar to last day of old job, except much tying up of loose ends and meetings with new job people about new exciting job duties, once I'm acclimatized.
Tired. Off to watch more "Black Books", herringbone-stitching all the way....
