back to basics and other stuff
Sep. 24th, 2006 09:37 pmIt was an every other Sunday today, which meant I took Vera someplace nice (i.e., I went to my historic fencing club to fence rapier) :P
The coaches are working on organized curricula for the weapons offered and tested some out on us: basic footwork, basic parries and attacks. For which I am grateful, because more advanced concepts and free bouting sometimes prevent my doing the simple stuff over and over like I need to.
FWIW, I did finally pick a sport club for fall - I'm joining my coach's Competitive Club for intermediate fencing, and will pay the floor fee and stick around for free fencing as time/energy permits. Though I'd much rather bout, it's not getting me anywhere, and much as I'm tempted to join one of the Other Fencing Clubs for same, I really need to just drill for a semester, and this is the most organized/economical way to do it.
Other weekend stuff: I sewed a lot, much of it by hand which explains the multiple pinpricks in my fingers and very tired right wrist. I decided to re-cut the doublet tabs in a smaller, more trapezoidal shape and I'm SO glad I did, because I'm much more pleased with the effect! Another example where redoing in resistance of the temptation to plunge ahead and just finish the damn thing :P Pictures forthcoming.
This evening, ordered pizza, watched Buffy reruns, and observed the temperature plummet as the rain passed us by.
Have some more in-depth writing in my brain, but my hands aren't willing tonight. Think I'll shoot for a (relatively) early night.
