I can't think of a single reason to have a bunny that big except novelty - at first I thought they must be bred for food rather than pets because of the housetraining issue, but evidently they can be litter trained. More monster bunny (with teeth?) pictures here and here, though most are posed "show rabbit" shots so there's no sense of scale.
Actually, it might be kind of nice to snug up with a big soft bunny-wunny, but according to the National Geographic article they can be "aggressive". So, perhaps not...
