the (not so secret) perversions of women
Dec. 7th, 2005 06:34 pmIt amused me to find this article (Salon, requires registration/free day pass, yadda yadda) in which it is discussed that women, not gay men, are the target audience for "Brokeback Mountain". Perhaps it's because women are thought to be the traditional audience for love stories, but I'd like to think that it's because some of Hollywood have clued into what a lot of us have already figured out: many women (at least straight/bi ones - and at least one lesbian of my acquaintance) like to watch cute boys smooch.
I'll probably see the movie at some point, not because I particularly want to see the smooching (I'm not that into Ledger/Gyllenhall; too young for my tastes. I'd much rather see, say, Viggo Mortenson and Sean Bean go at it. Mmm, LOTR. But I digress), but because it's supposed to be really good in the good acting/well directed sort of way. Not that I'm against anyone else leching, of course, and if this movie is successful, maybe we'll see more like it with cuter boys :)
