the Canadian Jon Stewart

.....this is what I gather Rick Mercer's job is, from [livejournal.com profile] jlsjlsjls' accounts and his Monday Report website. I've not had the pleasure of seeing the show but JLS exhorts me to share with you all - perhaps if you're nearer the border than I you can get a look at this and tell me what it's about!

Edit, 9:45 pm: Further illumination found the same way I found the blog in the first place, through FriendsFriends - [livejournal.com profile] therealjae has many Mercer links. Evidently he was responsible for Talking to Americans, in which it is revealed that the Canadian minute is longer than the American minute, yet Canadian hours only have 22 minutes total. I mean, it's like a whole other country up there!

A quiz, borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] jlsjlsjls:

gashlycrumb
The GashlyCrumb Tinies - You have a terribly wicked
sense of humour and people are drawn to your
wit. Children beware of the thin, pale man
with the black umbrella!

Which Edward Gorey Book Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

Going to try to have a better day than yesterday.

I do love me some Gorey on an early morning. Now off to don my top hat and umbrella....

fantasy weekend: active

More LJ tagging unearthed last year's saber seminar. Has it really been a year already? I remember that weekend vividly - I was dehydrated and hungry through half of each day and starving by the end, frustrated when I messed up, thrilled when I did a move right, endured my sweaty stinking self during the hour drive home and couldn't walk properly for a week afterwards.

It was awesome!!

Fantasy weekend: Quiet resort somewhere with minimal distractions and excellent quality fencing strips/equipment. Weather: coolish - early spring or mid fall. Location: mountains or somewhere else that has mist on the ground in the morning.

Day1:
Morning: Rise around 8, light breakfast. Warmup/footwork/fencing training for a couple of hours. Water break. Fence another couple of hours, lunch.

Post lunch: practice what we've learned in open bouts for a couple of hours. Water available throughout

Late afternoon: long hot shower followed by deep tissue massage, and possibly a nap.

Evening: Meet friends for good, protien-laden dinner and a couple of hours of good conversation. Conversation continues during chilly walk in the setting sun, admiring the scenery.

Night: pass out into blissful, well-deserved sleep.

Day 2: Same as Day 1, but with more warmup, more water, and breaking earlier for shower/massage. Luscious dinner again, followed by shopping for fencing equipment, swords, knives, armor, and related.

another reason to check out FriendsFriends more often

[livejournal.com profile] parrish_relics has a LJ!

Not adding to my Friends page because the photos would eat it alive, but I like her jewelry very much. I got a textual bracelet some years back which I still wear occasionally; looks like she's getting a lot more publicity (look at the tv screen captures).

The jewelry is made out of clay resin. They almost look like they're sculpted out of precious metal clay, but are much lighter weight.
