Mostly just ran errands yesterday, today was the "big" day as far as activity went.

First off, I realized earlier in the week that I needed some work clothes: specifically, some shoes to wear with skirts/without socks or hose, and an informal jacket/blazer that actually fits. This irked me as I've been trying to keep clothing costs down (i.e., nonexistent), but ultimately I'm not creative enough to come up with a means of making hoodies look professional, and boots with skirts are too hot even for me come July :P

Found workable skirt-shoes (round toed flats with a tiny kitten heel - very girly for me) at Target, but no jacket candidate as yet. D. is relieved that I'm considering purchase as an option; he finds it odd that I would spend valuable sewing time making something that can be found in stores when that time would be better devoted to making the unfindable (he has a point, but I digress). I'll check Old Navy later in the week.

Also found cheapie white ballet flats for wear with potential future Regency costumes, so there was a bit of costume scoring going on ;)

This afternoon D. and I went down to the Pride festival. I figured it would be fun and different because I don't usually go to Pride. I asked D. to come because I thought it would be good exercise (with tents to avoid the heat), and because it would be kind of "bridge" between the straight life I have with D. and the queer (or should I say "queer"?) world where I find myself spending more and more time.

We walked around between the tents and booths and I saw a few people I knew (hi, [livejournal.com profile] skill_grl!), but we mostly just walked and people-watched. We watched the pretty girls, came along a pet supply vendor that carried Spice and Kisia's oral hygiene solution I'd been looking for (? odd thing to find at a Pride festival, but I'll take it) and picked up a few flyers. I was impressed to see how many religious groups were out in force to embrace (NOT convert!) the gay community - not for me, but it's nice to know the option is there for those who want it. I also noticed that the Canadian tourist industry had a table - they must be watching the politics down here with $s in their eyes ;) It was crowded but not claustrophobically so; I was advised that the "freaky people" were too busy in the beer tent to run around doing their freaky thing this afternoon. Frankly, I think it was just too damn hot for them to bother :P

And summer has definitely arrived, in the fine tradition of the Capital this time of year - sunny and humid with additional heat radiation off the pavement! So hot I was wearing shorts (which I almost never do, due to the freezing temperatures of most air conditioning). D. burns easily and hates the heat, and frankly even I was starting to wilt, so after about 1-1 1/2 hours we caught the metro back home.

Summer snack note: put your M&Ms in the freezer. You'll be grateful when coming in from the heat :)

I was ravenous and exhausted when we got home, so I ordered pizza and tried unsuccessfully to nap.

I think the best part of today was being out in the heat, getting worn out, getting home and resting with dinner and a shower. I know the punctuation in this post paints me as sort of blah, but what you're reading is heat exhaustion + full stomach. I'm glad D. came out with me and I'm glad I actually got myself organized enough to make it downtown in the first place. I should try that again sometime, but perhaps without all the sun exposure :)
