Still more food for thought, this time regarding information overload.

I suffer (or is that, "suffer"?) as much from info addiction as anyone who has access to internet around the clock and an insatiable urge to sit at my computer when I'm not really doing anything, spending the time between emails, news, and LJ posts doing silly quizzes ).

This might be recreation for some folks but if you're like me and sit in front of the screen for a living, you need a certain amount of analog time :P When I was on vacation in April I discovered that I find it very restful to NOT constantly be at "the screen" - the few times I did check, I answered personal emails, and that was IT - no surfing, no news.

I already take respite from news sites/blogs on weekends; maybe I should also take a similar break from reading my busier mailing lists (there is no reason for me to wade through multiple posts on, say, the Greenland gown, unless I'm currently working on one. H-costume is archived if I need it later).

In other words, my time at the computer should be better spent - keeping up with friends, writing (here and my writing groups), and reading only the mail items/news that I have a real interest in.
