Or, rather, Saturday at the Zoo and general wandering with J. It was shocking to realize that it has been 8 years - college graduation - since we've seen each other!

It was a beautiful day yesterday, bright and sunny with bright fall leaves and perfect for walking around. I never realized how close together some things in this city are - we walked and talked and ate yummy Ethiopian food and generally caught up. (Tangential - I never realized how close together some of the places in this city are. Far from a harrowing death-march, Dupont Circle-Adams Morgan is a nice walk of ~2-3 miles. I should do that more often!)

J. travels a lot for his work, and is very good (or, at least, far better than me) at keeping up with our very far-flung friends and acquiantances. I'm pleased to say that it sounds like everyone is doing well - no one has died, lost hair, or become irretrievable couch potatoes :P J. himself is doing well, but the constant travel (several countries, both coasts, and several places in between in the past ~3-4 years) is starting to wear on him.

So, I had a very good day catching up and hanging out. I'm going to have to try harder to keep up with folks. Part of this will involve getting over my "phone phobia", but with the holidays coming up, this is as good a time as any :)

Today was mostly spent grocery shopping, laundering, and otherwise doing all my errand-y weekend stuff. I did remember to set back the clocks, even going so far as to have a couple of watches repaired/batteries replaced, etc.

Stepped around the mall while waiting on the watches; saw nothing I loved with but marveled at how the Hot Topic chain has made black/vinyl/utilitarian/funky clothing accessible for young proto-goths and fetish freaks everywhere - wish it had been around when I was in high school!

Also sewed a bit on the chemise (in the final lap - flat-felling the side seams by hand) and went to the library - picked up Why America Slept and the next book in the Kage Baker "Company" series. Good stuff.
