This month marks the 25th year of the Voyager I and II mission. I was fascinated by this as a kid - I remember a NOVA special about the discovery of Io's volcanoes that my Dad taped. I watched that tape until it wore out because I thought it was so incredible to have such clear photographs of things so far away. Saturn's rings and Jupiter's red spot were (and are) just SO aesthetically pleasing..

I'm still intrigued by it, even more so now that both are actually leaving the solar system proper. I know that the Voyagers haven't been priority for a few years, but evidently they are still working and JPL is still picking up and analyzing signals. Not bad for such old technology - I think it's incredible that either are still working at all.

Of course the UFO geek in me still wonders if the Voyager golden records will ever be discovered by anyone/thing who can figure out how to listen to them. I'm still looking for a copy as "sample fodder" - yes, I don't spin anymore but I'd still love to have all those "Greetings from the Planet Earth" in multiple languages.
