Had my friend H. over today for sewing stuff - I traced off one of my out-of-print Miyake items - a wrap around skirt pattern that is one of his easier ones, if not one that makes sense at first glance. I think she did an awesome job and it looks great! I'm also rather surprised that I could show someone else how to make something effectively. It was also good to just chat and catch up.

She also showed me a goodie she found in her attic - a 1956 Singer sewing machine with all accessories, box, AND manual! H. had used it and said it still worked, and I'm not surprised - the entire thing is cast iron and weighs a ton. I recommended my local repair place to her in the hopes that they can show her how to oil and clean it better than I can - I was unfamiliar with how it worked and how the flat bobbin carriage could be cleaned so I thought it was best to refer her to a professional.

Also made up muslin "scales" for my current project. They are currently pinned to the plain base and I've spent a few days looking at them to make sure I like their shape and placement. I think I'm going to cut out of fashion fabric tomorrow, if I'm not too tired. I'm freaked at the idea simply because I have limited fabric and have no idea how I'm going to hold the pattern pieces to the fabric as I don't want visible pinholes in the vinyl.
