Reasons why foreign and/or speciality fashion magazines are superior to the Big Three (Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar) - no perfume inserts! I just went on another slicing spree through old fashion magazines and have a headache from all of the cards for <insert designer here>'s latest stinkbomb.

Speaking of perfume, I have a backstock of free sample vials that came with various Sephora shipments over the past couple of years - probably some lotions in there too. Anyone want?

D. has volunteered to help me scan some of my old magazine clips so I can go ahead and throw them out. Also made a tiny dent in the stack last night.

I purged the kitchen of outdated medicines and vitamins. I put some old antibiotic ointment and aspirin in a plastic bag before disposal; I've read far too much about all the junk that's getting into the water table, and while throwing more plastic away isn't ideal it's certainly better than helping along the antibiotic resistant bugs of the world.

Still making the basement habitable by putting away and throwing out. I finally went out and replaced the pattern I'm currently working on so I'll have a whole version, assuming I never find the envelope for the one I cut out. I hate it when I lose stuff, but given the clutter in the basement, it was probably inevitable. D. is on a mission to put all of our sentimental but non-minimalist "knicknacks" into storage; I'm trying to help but I like to look at those things sometimes, it can be as visually exhausting to live in a perfectly balanced Mondrian painting as it can be to live neverending fields of little vases and action figures.

Gotta keep going...

new music

I have been listening to my new music and its been nice to have some new tunes. Loop Guru is definitely something I will need to hear more of!

i-D magazine has been fussing over retro-80's electro bands like Fischerspooner and Miss Kittin & The Hacker for the past couple of issues. Interesting. I guess it really is the 1980's turn for the retro treatment in more ways than one. May check out more of this music and Fischerspooner sounds like it would be interesting to see live, assuming they ever tour.

I've become lazy about checking up on current music - I used to live and breathe it (teenage indie/goth + college radio dj/raver = obsessiveness over music verging on addiction), but with all the other stuff I have going on and the increasing rapidity of new music coming out I'd have to stop sewing (gasp!) and other horrors to keep up correctly. This, and I can ill afford another consuming habit. So I go on this splurge for new stuff a few times a year and leave it at that.

Speaking of sewing, think I might go do some hand-stitching while watching "Six Feet Under", assuming I can get enough light into the living room to see.
