intuhlecktual stuff
Mar. 2nd, 2002 05:31 pmReserved tickets to see Jane Goodall talk in April. Kind of lucky in a way - she speaks in the states once every other blue moon and is only visiting a few cities.
I got to see her speak when I was 12, at a college where one of my mom's college friends was a dean. I don't remember much about the lecture itself, I was too busy being starstruck - I was a huge fan as a kid. She was a woman who *did stuff* - and given that I was a geeky kid who got along with my pets better than I did with people (still do, in fact), I thought it was pretty damn cool to go off into the jungle away from society and watch chimpanzees (still do, in fact - so long as I have plumbing and heat). It will be interesting to see what my reactions to her are 17 years on (damn! am I really nearly 29?), having grown up a bit and actually read her work.
