Feb. 16th, 2003 06:10 pmAnswered some questions, made some discoveries regarding fit:
- Attach muslin sleeve to muslin and check for movement/fit. Done. The fit is mostly good but seems baggy around my front shoulder. I am hoping that the piecing involved will give me the opportunity to "dart" that a bit.
- Watch "The Ugly Truth" and other relevant episodes and take notes/sketches (1. can be done at the same time). Done. Little new revealed here, except that I will need kick pleats at the back and sides for movement.
- Make changes to muslin based on 2. Started.
- Complete muslin including seams, facing, and lining. Well, completed FIRST muslin - will make another with the piecing to check for fit/see if I can shape the fullness out of the front shoulder with the pieces.
- Decide on colors/textures of vinyl to use based on episodes, available fabrics, and current wardrobe (no reason to limit this to only being worn with one thing!) Still looking at fabrics. I predict at least another day working on the muslin, probably more, so certainly no rush.
- Look up PVC in "Fabric Savvy" for best thread/interfacing/linings to use. Sew-in interfacing (I'm sure I have some around), poly thread, no mention of linings (I'm guessing polyester). Doesn't recommend top-stitching, but does recommend fabric glue for turned-under seams. Will probably have to insert lining by hand - and this does need to be lined as the multiple kick pleats will allow the inside to show.
Not sure how I'm going to address the shoulder - the back is fine, but the front has extra gapping around my underarm and clavicle that hinders movement somewhat. I tried a "hack" where I shrunk the arm hole and moved the shoulder line higher (make sense?) but this looked bad and didn't help the movement issue. Some of this may be addressed by the partial stretch of the vinyl and the introduction of a shoulderpad, which should change the way the sleeve drapes. Any suggestions welcome.
