Good news of the day

In the midst of all the infuriating stories about the increasingly likely upcoming war with Iraq and presidental nods to pro-lifers, these two stories give me a little smile and hope that there is some sanity in the world:

Conservative withdraws from AIDS panel - yes, Dubya probably put him up there just to see how much sh!t we'll put up with, but more sensible voices were heard and heeded (for once).

and

Federal Benefits offered to lesbian partner of 9/11 victim - as it should be.

that second item really makes me feel good. i have to admit to being rather surprised, the political climate being what it is, but that is the kind of surprise i'm glad to see!
