Used to be that it was absolute anathema for me to be at home DOING NOTHING for New Years' - I guess things really do change as you get older because despite having invites to a friend's house, neither D. and I were up for it. It does not help that I was up early for work yesterday - this screws up ambitions for a serious partying schedule.

I sewed some, spun some of my old records (I finally stopped trying to mix when I realized that the headphones were not loud enough for me to beatmatch properly), and watched "Strange Days" with D. (a wholly appropriate movie as it takes place in a dystopian LA on new years eve... 1999. Why do we not have memory recording/playback by now, 4 years on?? Oh yes, and I wish I had Angela Bassett's arms.)

D. hunkered in his room most of the night, but he knows what counts - at midnight he got out a bottle of sparkling cider (D. doesn't like alcohol) and toasted in the new year with me. We got all smoochy and sappy :):)

Now we are entering "Checkuary", that period between new years and roughly the end of February where you keep writing the old year on your checks.

I'm sort of glad that the holidays are over; it was nice having 4 day weeks for the past couple of weeks but I am looking forward to getting back on a regular schedule that is easier to manipulate as I see fit.

Early cool things for the new year: Hoping to see an exhibit of middle eastern jewelry at a museum that has been nearby for years, yet I didn't even know about it.
