D. and I did end up going up to the Altern-8 thing - it was so funny to see them out of costume as they wore surgical masks throughout their early '90s career to hide their identities. Of course, they are totally nondescript - they are DJs, after all :P

The club was very nice - 3 levels (basement, main floor, mezzanine) with several bars and VIP room. Good vibe and blessedly little in the way of meat markety-ness, though I think D. and I were both much too old to be of interest to crowd (mostly late teens-early 20s).

Clothing note - little has changed since '95, not surprising as constancy is the norm for specific subcultures - baggy or cargo pants (though not the hugely "split skirt" excessive styles), t-shirts or tanks, sneakers. Noticed a few people (m and f) in what appeared to be "baggy capris" or long surfer shorts, but that's about the only really new thing.

They played the early '90s classics, the kind with the Alvin and the Chipmunks vocals and "Belgian hoover" roars (which vibrate really nicely through a good soundsystem!). I danced more than D. - he mostly burnt out in the first hour as his dancing style is more vigorous than mine and because the smoke bothered him a lot more than it bothered me. But he did have a good time, and that's what counts - he always LOVED dancing, and still loves it on the special occasions when we go out.

I had a good time too - not ready to do this every single weekend like I used to but definitely something that I've been away from too long. Every couple of months (preceded by a dose of SmokeShield) could be a very good thing.

We slept till around 1 and spent the afternoon watching LOTR in preparation for TTT sometime after Wednesday (we're going to avoid the opening night crowds), doing laundry, and recovering from "club lung".
