Dec. 9th, 2002 09:57 pmI've been hammering away at work trying to learn ASP/VBScript. We are in a slow period, and besides, I've not done anything new for awhile.
I had a clue-by-four last week when I realized, gee, it would probably be much easier to grasp ASP if I were more familiar with VBScript (as this is mostly what we use). I am starting to understand it in the most superficial way - as with every other object-oriented programming language I've looked at, the logic makes sense in a "tip-of-the-mind" kind of way; I can understand the code of others but it would still be nearly impossible for me to write from scratch. I have a very hard time telling the difference between implicitly declared variables and built-in variables and so can't quite get it.
But I'll spare further details. I've been frustrated at work because there is little to do and I am not feeling challenged. Part of this has been a reluctance on my own part to take on proper programming languages as I find them very intimidating; part of it is that the nature of the job means that workflow goes at a glacial pace at best. I feel both underutilized in my current job duties and woefully unprepared to do "serious programming".
I'm going to take another look at this in the next few weeks in an attempt to figure out if I'm on the right track or should perhaps be looking at another track. A prospect I find extremely distasteful as I was just starting to get comfortable and am in no way eager to start over yet again.
