fanfic can focus on plot points in a way that originators can't, if only because they have the time and desire to get it JUST RIGHT.

Plus the fanfic writers don't have the paranoid editors ordering them to not follow through on stuff they've set up (someday somebody's gotta write an encyclopedia of Chris Claremont proposed plotlines that freaked out the management ***GRIN***)

The graphics collection of the public library here has been strongly DC and indie-oriented, but recent changes in their selection staff have resulted in a swing back to purchasing Marvel compilations ... mainly X-Men. So, having been out of the loop for a while, I wanted to get a feel for who was who these days, both characters and writers since those two factors determine how the library wants me to classify individual titles (some are by author, some by character, and I have to make the judgment call on which way they go), and that got me making some purchases for my own personal library. Acquired some older stuff like the huge "Mutant Massacre" and "Fall of the Mutants" volumes as well as new ones like the Jason Aaron "Wolverine" omnibus (if you wanna give your hands, wrists and forearms a good muscle-building workout, read THAT sucker through in one sitting). And then also picked up a few compilations of the original "Excalibur" since that's an old fave of mine and the books had extras like a Pryde and Wisdom miniseries I'd never heard of (quite a surprise to someone who was pretty sure she owned a complete run of the original "Excalibur" and all its spinoffs), and then that led to "Excalibur" fanfic as well ... well, you know how it goes. Logan, Kurt, and Kitty were always my favourites in the X-universe and I did find some gems that I though had them perfectly in character (once I filtered out all the movieverse and evolution stuff).
