Went to the Egyptian exhibit - it was great! The way things were displayed it was possible to get very, very close and look at the details. The jewelry still astounds me; they had the ability to forge the tiniest things so many thousands of years ago (most impressive were a set of tiny "idols" that were used as religious offerings - all gold, all about 1-2" high, perfect tiny detail).

There were also statues made of a rock called "graywacke" (??) that were polished to a very high shine - they almost looked metal, and like they were brand new.

I got the exhibition catalog (of course) and a reduced-price copy of an overview of the Cairo Museum's holdings that had large, detailed photos of some of the jewelry and beads. I have an addiction for art reference materials.

It was good to get out and walk, even though the sun was still hot and I slathered up with sunscreen so as not to burn. I was hoping to run into [livejournal.com profile] geekchick, but I got there later than expected due to a phone call.

I'm very tired but well exercised. I will sleep well tonight.
