Part of the reason I don't wear jewelry more is that I have a "uniform" set that I always wear:

  • Wedding ring - even while asleep

  • Engagement ring - when I'm not sleeping (tried once, scratched my face) or fencing (Badger pointed out that even though it's my off hand I still risk losing the stone from a random off-target touch). Both of these on left ring finger.

  • Watch - every day, even weekends. I only take it off at bedtime and when I want to lose track of time, because guaranteed, without it, I will. Left wrist.

  • College graduation ring - just got it back from resizing and even though I was without for almost a month my hand still felt weird without it. Right ring finger.

  • Love knot silver bangle - From D. as an anniversary gift a couple of years ago. In addition to sentimental reasons it's pretty and goes with everything.

What do you wear every day?

-Wedding & engagement rings (they've been soldered into a single set), left ring finger
-pentagram butterfly necklace- from my D, for our first Yule
-emerald & diamond ring- also from my D, also for our first Yule, right ring finger
-2 pairs matching silver hoop earrings- my ears are double pierced, and I don't like wearing studs, but tend to forget to put earrings on in the mornings, so I just wear these all the time as they're generic enough to go with everything.

Interestingly, I forgot all about jewelry for pierced body parts until you mentioned earrings. I don't need anything in my ears to keep them open anymore so I go without there, but my body piercings always have the same thing in because they'll close up otherwise.

Only the wristwatch is a daily thing ... I've worn one since I was ten and my arm just feels wrong without.

Rings and my work just don't get along ... partly the book handling and the bashing they'd get, and partly the fact that my fingers have so much overdeveloped muscle that flexing against a metal band is downright uncomfortable (yep, little bodybuilder fingers, me ***grin***).

Have neglected earrings for a long while, but am currently trying to get back into wearing 'em more often, just because I have a boxful of very nice ones.

But everything comes off when I sleep, and on fencing days, and usually when I am baking--it feels nice to have the hands bare. Used to be I wore my wedding ring almost every day, but as my knuckles swell and shrink (with or without fencing thwacks), some days it won't go on, and I substitute the 25th anniversary ring from this year. The next most frequent flyer is a silver band I bought for myself from a local head shop when I was about 12. (My first jewelry purchase, I believe!) It goes on the index finger of my left hand. All else changes with moods and seasons. I have a huge collection of relatively inexpensive, quirky and beautiful stuff picked up from museum stores all over the country, and a few lovely pieces of Venetian glass jewelry bought from a friend who imports it. I can understand why the rings wouldn't work - my mom tore up her engagement ring while shelving once :(

I should have known most of your jewelry was museum store and specialty imports - I've seen you in some wonderful pieces :)

The cuff [livejournal.com profile] harperjean gave me for our first anniversary, on my right wrist. Except for when I'm actually working -- wrist jewelry gets in the way of giving massages. I don't usually wear other jewelry unless I'm dressing up, and when I do I cycle between several favorite pieces.
