anotheranon | brief thoughts on the Inauguration

Despite my proximity, no, I didn't go down to the Mall. I'm fighting a cold + crowds + BLISTERING cold = easier to stay home and watch on the tee vee.
And watch I did :)
IMHO the ceremony was brief and mostly elegant (didn't care for Rick Warren).
The music was phenomenal - Aretha! And some of the best classical musicians ever in one performance! How rare must it be for talent of that caliber to play with their peers?
I liked the speech. I liked that it wasn't feel-good platitudes - we've all got to get to work. "Era of Responsibility".
I also liked that the Obamas got out of their car to walk part of the way. I know it's a tradition that dates back to Carter but with the tight security I still didn't think it would be likely.
The screaming when any Democrat arrived on the platform - you'd think they were rock stars! Mind, that might have been biased perception on my part/C-Span's editing.

Now let's see what he does....
