costume notes
Ok, I finally laced into my completed Tudor outfit and took pictures of it. I include a teaser here but as I have no public place to post them, email me if you want me to send you photos.
Went with some friends to the MD Renaissance Festival today. I'd not been to a Faire in about 10 years, it is somehow comforting that some things stay (mostly) the same. The miscellaneous furry creatures perched on shoulders pirate style were kind of new.
The clothes were in no way accurate but I mean that in a good way. It was fascinating to see how many ways "Renaissance clothing" could be interpreted and re-interpreted. There were many renaissance-goths, renaissance-fetishists, and wenchy sorts, as well as some people who clearly went to great pains over every detail and others who just came in jeans and tees. And many, many kilts. (Some kilts worn with jeans and tees, some not). I wore my plain blue kirtle and smock, with a coif to cover my pink hair and a straw hat to prevent pink skin. I really wanted to trial run my fancy dress but having tried it on today I am becoming convinced that I'll only be comfortable in it when it gets very cold.
It was a fabulous day to get out and walk around - warm but not too warm and not a cloud in the sky. In truth, the weather has been stunning all weekend.
Now I need to rest up for work and the real live unrepentant present-time. The Taliban have been given 3 days to turn over bin Laden or face military action. It is still not clear exactly what form this military action will take.
<scarlett ohara>I'll think about that tomorrow</scarlett>.

Thanks for the suggestion for getting out of the house; this was probably the perfect day for it.
