lamentably disposable

Stuff is wearing out around me:

  • Fencing lame has a tiny hole. Don't need to replace yet (yay, conductive thread!) but was an unpleasant surprise as I'd been marveling at how well it was holding up considering the abuse I've given it.
  • Ditto fencing jacket, only with multiple tiny holes and not much of a surprise. Iron on doesn't stay ironed on. Am in hand-cramping position of hand-sewing an underarm patch, 'cos the machine won't reach.
  • And more - will trade patching lames for rewiring blades, as they all need it and I hate rewiring!
  • Basement futon has got to go. Moving the mattress around revealed that the frame has long been broken and after over 15 years it's probably time to replace with Furniture for Grown Ups(TM)
  • Car needs to be tuned up. Admittedly not a surprise, just crap timing as I scheduled the appointment before discovering fencing gear/futon SNAFUs.

And yeah, I probably could have headed off some of this at the pass if I'd been more willing to admit that even the sturdiest goods wear out over time.

Ah, yes, good ol' entropy. I feel for you ... it's the reason all my schlepping-around-the-house t-shirts are turning into elegant lace at the same time.

Favoure stuff, especially clothing and footwear, lasting forever is one of my biggest if-you-could-change-one-thing-in-the-world fantasies ... ;p
