quick weekend update

As ever, running like a chicken with my head cut off:

Saw Hellboy II and was much impressed! Much more memorable than the first, and the creatures were inventive and I suspect, not entirely CGI - they looked too gritty and imperfect for that, and for me even stood out beyond the elves costumes (which were quite swank). Worth seeing just for the Troll's market - it's like Hieronymous Bosch exploded! Recommended.

Went to a party and saw my friends; much good catching up and conversation :)

My linen order finally arrived and I started the boiling/cooking cycle to soften it up and shrink it down. The gold linen that will become a leine for [livejournal.com profile] dotheranon has completed it's trip through the washer/dryer and is now in the freezer, to get ironed down to worn, comfy perfection at some nebulous future date. First I have to finish (or at least reach a stopping point) on the fitted gown, which got set back because the lining was hanging funny - I had to pull it out and redo it.

I don't remember off the top of my head where I read the interview, but Guillermo del Toro spoke on his fantastical creatures and mentioned that he prefers to use actual costumed actors in place of CGI wherever possible. We'll get to see even more of this in action when he brings "The Hobbit" to the screen.
