Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] folo1:

I know very little about some of the people who read my journal. Some people I know relatively well. I read your journals, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you read me and I thank you for your interest.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen to the Carpenters and know all the lyrics". I might feel compelled to sing along with you when I remember this detail.

I'd love it if every single person who reads me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. If you would like, post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.

Upping the ante: if I do know something about you, post something that I don't know!

I can't stand to watch (or listen to) Sponge Bob Square Pants, but I find collecting SPSP figurines and actions figures to be irresistible.

I trained and was approved by the American Society of Fight Directors as an Actor Combatant and can pretend to hurt you in hand to hand combat, quarter staff, and rapier and dagger.

[identity profile] anotheranon.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh! I did NOT know that about you!

Could I refer [livejournal.com profile] vree to you? She's working on a play with a fight scene and I can't answer her questions about stage fighting.

Sure, I'll be happy to share my tuppence.

Pink is my favorite color, oddly enough. I wore a pink belt while I was in Iraq (and got busted!) and have pink Doc Marten's.

So many possibilities, since you know so little about me.

I will forever regret not taking full advantage of playing in a garage band that was theoretically capable of fielding a piccolo-souzaphone-bagpipe trio.

(P.S. At some very vague point in the future, I may ask if you'd be willing to be a Subject Matter Expert critical reader for my current novel project. It has to do with girls with swords.)

[identity profile] anotheranon.livejournal.com 2007-12-19 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I can definitely see where you might regret the eclectic band thing. That sounds priceless!

And I'll happily be a SME if you accept the disclaimer that I'm far from expert in all sword combat!

[identity profile] hrj.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't need you to be an expert advisor, just an expert reader. I know better than to write detailed sword stuff since I don't do it myself (i.e., I have no plans to write detailed fight scenes). What I'll need is someone who can tell me whether my gloss-overs work for a knowledgeable reader or whether there are parts that go *clunk* even when I'm dodging the topic. (The story in question is the one I've described roughly as "alternate history Ruritanian regency lesbian romantic adventure".)

[identity profile] anotheranon.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Then I'll be happy to oblige. Sounds like a fun book!

Hmm...am a closet workaholic? That's not particularly unusual or something you mightn't know. Let me try again.

I learned how to crack a bullwhip and bullwhip tricks from a 'real' cowboy. (Even have my own cowboy hat and bullwhip.)

This is a neat subject. Hmm, I may have to try it.

Tres kewl! I didn't know there were bullwhip tricks outside of roping cattle (or artifacts, if you're Indiana Jones). Just what can you do?

We're recent additions to each other's F-list, though we have a couple of friends in common and have lots of fandom interests that overlap.

I live in Roxbury Mill, am married with a kid, love fiber arts, reading, writing, cooking, sci-fi, and travel.

When I lived in England for a semester back in 1989, I got the chance to act on a London stage. I was taking a Shakepeare class at the Rose Theatre in Southwark, across from where hte Globe is, The professor wanted a pair of students to perform something from Romeo and Juliet. I'd done the balcony scene the semester previous in acting class and still remembered most of the lines.

A friend was cast as Romeo and we went through things a bit and then there we were! I was up on a balcony on a London stage performing Shakespeare.

Awesome!

I played the lead in my middle school Christmas play, even though I was a Jehovah's Witness at the time and did not celebrate the holiday.

In high school, I got the role of Beneatha in Lorraine Hansberry's Raisin in the Sun. The drama teacher said he picked me not because I was a particularly talented actor but because I was dependable and would come to every rehearsal.

As much as I'm glad I left the KEB, think MM has wasted his life, and admit most everything Lexxian makes me nauseus....

... Kai still gives me chills when I see him on screen.

[identity profile] anotheranon.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
He has wasted his talent (unless he's doing stage stuff we don't know about), hasn't he?

Truth told, I've not watched an episode in... I don't know when. I might have to test to see if I still get chills :P

[identity profile] semmie17.livejournal.com 2008-01-01 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Did you do the test? *grin*
