PSA: Flu vaccine does not cause flu

I hear this one every year, so I feel the urge to set the record straight. The residual "ick" felt a day or so after the shot isn't the flu itself, it's your immune system revving up in reaction to the dead (non-virulent) virus in the vaccine - the real thing would knock you out for a week or more.

I got mine today and the runny nose and muscle aches are there, same as every other year I've had it, and I know they'll fade by tomorrow. They'll fade faster if I go lift some weights, so I think I will....

Yeps - I get the 24-hour ick after mine, but it beats the hell out of the real thing.

So *that's* why my doctor said to wait on the flu shot until I'm over my cold....

Exactly.

But!
