garden variety stupid

Just could...not...get it together at club today. At least off the strip. Many of my fellow fencers are practicing constant movement of the blade to confuse their opponents and it also confuses me when I ref - for the life of me I couldn't see who was doing what.

I was able to take advantage of their learning curves a bit while on the strip, though I'm hiking up one of my own. I've not had a lesson in awhile so I'm guessing that at my next one I'll be learning the "Don Quixote" windmill-arm thing as well :P

Actually I think a lot of it is just that I've been fencing less often for the past month, and I'm rusty. It's just that today it was particularly irritating :/

Sorry to be so ignorant, but what does 'off the strip' mean? Is it when you're not actually fencing but watching others fence?

No need to apologize - I shouldn't have been so technical :P

The "strip" (or "piste") is the 2x14 meter strip (real or imaginary) that I'm on when I'm actually fencing.

In this case, "Off the strip" means I'm not fencing, but trying to referee (or "direct") two other people fencing. Refereeing is kind of like watching on steroids, because I have to make a call on who scored a touch - it's hard as hell and I'm not very good at it!

It's your journal, you're allowed to be as technical as you like! Thanks for the explanation, though.
