my cooking style

I've seen the meme here, there, and everywhere, so I thought I'd jump in like a lemming :P:

My cooking style is best described as Tasty Utilitarian: I want my food to be tasty and interesting (I had my fill of pot roast/mashed potatoes growing up - good, but awfully basic) but not take too long to prepare/cook (an hour max), and I the menu is mostly alike week to week and slow to change because it takes me a long time to get bored of things. I'm aware that for a lot of people cooking is a hobby and an adventure, trying new recipes and foodstuffs, but for me finding something New!And!Exciting! and preparing/cooking it is a chore after a full day of work :P

There are rare exceptions, of course, and during winter (it's cooled off again, yay!) I sometimes feel the urge to bake and I'm more likely to get creative there, because most baked goods aren't necessities. I'm also more likely to try new things at a restaurant or when someone else is cooking because I admittedly don't want to be stuck with the results filling up my fridge if I try something new and it sucks.

I do often work from recipes initially and then adapt them to suit my tastes (adding chorizo to Spanish rice/veg recipe; adding cashews to korma/vindaloo sauce).

I'm still working halfheartedly on my anti-fruit bias - I've recently moved up from no pulp to lots of pulp orange juice.

I am also testing new grocery stores because I recently discovered that Safeway has donated heavily to Republican campaigns in the past, and everyone knows that for every dollar the Repubs receive, Bush kills a kitten.

See, now I'm just meandering - time for more sewing

Tasty Utilitarian ... I like that and I have to steal that term from you 'cause it describes my cooking habits too. Although I did exert myself to make gourmet baked macaroni and cheese last week (Kraft Dinner shall never cross my doorstep ... I always make fiddly real cheese sauce from scratch, and this time I used smoked gouda and a splash of tabasco ... YUM!)

Re pulpy juices ... if you want some delicious horizon-broadening, 'tis the season for newly-pressed apple cider (it's yummy hot & spiced)
