Tony Wilson, 1950-2007. If his real life personality was anything like Steve Coogan's version in 24 Hour Party People, Wilson must have been a pain in the ass, but hey - he DID sign Joy Division and Happy Mondays, who made my teenage years a bit more bearable than they would have been otherwise.

I LOVED that movie, and would have loved to talk to Tony even for a few hours over a few pints. Someone who had a wonderful passion for music and PEOPLE. Definitely a larger than life guy who met his end in a far too dour and uncharacteristic means.

Yes, it's the "larger than life" arrogance that comes across that makes me disinclined to have a pint with him :P But given that Factory almost single-handedly spawned the Manchester "legend" Wilson was a tireless impresario.
