the domestic Bermuda Triangle

I'm in the process of cleaning up my basement - creating places for new books to "live" and clearing off surfaces so I know where things are (and can therefore start a new sewing project with a clear conscience).

I'm also hoping that some things that have gone missing in the past month or so will turn up. Specifically, a black bra (I only have 1 now) and my favorite pair of pyjama/yoga bottoms.

The former was almost certainly left in Seattle, but as I last saw the pants on the drying rack in the laundry room that means that they're somewhere in this house, probably the same place Spice is keeping her "prisoner of war" camp for her many vanished fur mice :P

Also sorting out where to put books, especially as so many are large format/folio that there are a limited number of shelves on which they'll fit. Smut and self-help stay on my bedside shelf - don't want casual visitors figuring out how weird and how.. weird I am :P

I once had a bright pink t-shirt disappear in a one bedroom apartment for several months ... I eventually found it folded into my Arctic quilt when I shook it out for its inaugural winter use (and how it got there is a mystery beyond mysteries, since the quilt was normally put away long before it was warm enough for the t-shirt to be out ... proof that house gremlins DO exist)

However you have reminded me that I have a new bra (purchased Saturday) to be debagged, detagged and put away (last year Jockey brought out the tank top that was supposed to cover bra straps, this year they've got a low y-back bra that looks as if it might actually "fit" under the tank ***GRIN***)

They're house gnomes - were you there when Tim and Char gave me the House Gnome-Away Spray? Looks like we might both need a new can!

Interestingly, once I moved up to living in 2-bedroom places (gotta keep the sewing machine, the weight bench and the bookcase overflow somewhere), I never had a garment "disappear" again ... mebbe the house gnomes are scared of larger spaces?

I leave all my smut and self-help out on my regular bookcases, along with all my LBGT academic analysis. I figure that if I let you into my house, you're either a friend..... or a totally disinterested tradesman who's supposed to be fixing something and not looking at my damn books. :p

(The porn, though, I keep under my bed. Or in my computer. yummmmm....)

Well, the smut is borderline porn (we may need to figure out if we're calling "porn" and "smut" the same way though.) Besides, we have family visit from time to time and it sucks to have to do a "naughty cleanup" run every time one of them visits.

Nah, for maximum guestage freakout I keep all the UFO/conspiracy theory/vampire stuff in the guest room. I figure if anyone gets truly freaked maybe they shouldn't be staying in there :P

:::gasp::: Y-you have SMUT????

I'm shocked. Truly. To the core.

Can I see?
