Disclaimer: I've not seen the movie, but I have read through the graphic novel. Though it seems some right-wing pundits are twisting logic into pretzels trying to see "300" as an allegory of Gulf War II (even though it was written in 1998 and is a comic book, fer crissakes), I'm more inclined to think that it may be the most unintentionally homoerotic movie of the year (don't miss the funny videos).

wcg has already discussed the historical inaccuracies, but IMHO these have little to do with how "good" the movie is or isn't - likewise I don't think the fact that Pirates of the Pirate Spank Inferno* has nothing to do with the historic reality of piracy in the Caribbean diminishes its entertainment value.

Evidently though, the muscles are real and there's a workout to prove it (more details and Stumptuous' trial run). I feel like a puny girly-girl now :/

FWIW, I think I'll be skipping "300", or at least waiting for video. Gerard Butler's abs may be all that, but I can see them in "Tomb Raider II"**.

*Ever since seeing ragdoll's icon of same, it's been hard to resist the urge to refer to POTC 3 as PSI. In addition to being a hilarious Coupling episode, it's so obvious that Jack + Norrington + Orlando Bloom's character are all much more into pursuing each other than Kiera Knightley :P

**At which point I don't care anymore, because anyone sharing a screen with Angelina Jolie is automatically less. Yes, even in that piece of dreck...

Shimizu is hot (if a bit on the skinny side), but as hot as Jolie? Debateable.

I think I can say with confidence though that I've never seen a man who can share a screen with Jolie and not be out-sizzled (no, not even Brad Pitt).

Oh, Oh! But, I offer a qualified MHO: Who is hottest? Angelina Jolie (in almost anything), Claudia Black as Aeryn, or Katee Sackoff as Starbuck? All three out-kick-ass their male co stars on screen (sometimes literally) and generally have the hot, buff, dangerous woman thing going on.

Claudia Black as Aeryn is a bulletproof "Gay Test" icon. Hands down! I still get moist panties when I hear her growl "On-The-Grrrrrownd-Now!" in the PK TechGirl ep. Jolie is a hot second in Tomb Raider, and Mr&Mrs Smith (love the Lez Squad spies!) but havta admit that Katee doesn't do anything for me. Not even a whisker twitch. :/

Its fairly true to the comic book and thats its biggest problem... frank millers vision. Buy into it and love it, don't and be irritated by it. But by god it was visual candy.

I've read a few reviews by fans of the comic, and like you they seemed to enjoy it because the movie replicated the book practically frame by frame.
