weekend in review
Don't usually do a blow-by-blow, but enough interesting things went on this weekend that it's worth a writeup:
Friday: I took off because I had use or lose days and with some of the work-related oddities going on it seemed as good a day as any. I made it down to the Mall for the first time in... I can't remember. I got a final look into NMAH before they shut down for renovations, chiefly to see the Jim Henson exhibit - saw two versions of Kermit and two highly detailed puppets from one of my favorite childhood movies The Dark Crystal (tangential: a sequel started production this summer).
Also timed my visit perfectly to see the 16th century Venetian painting exhibit and attend the gallery talk as well! The 1 1/2 hours on my feet was hard on my back, but well worth it - most of my Italian art history is of Florentine artists so this was new for me :)
D. and I spent time with
skill_grl and friends in the evening for much interesting talk and catching up. It's often good to just listen - there are some very cool people in the world :)
Saturday did my usual Saturdayish things and had a nice dinner over at
vree's (she's a fantastic cook/chopper) to help read some plays she was considering. I learned something about theater and play planning which I have no experience with, and chatted with new(ish) people without getting trapped by the horrendous Beast of Small Talk :P
Sewing is going at an outrageously swift pace compared to what it has been - the doublet torso is fitted and I'm working on the sleeves. Pix forthcoming when the mass of fabric on LaFaye looks different enough from my last shots.
Also rather incredibly caught up on phone calls. It's easier when I don't feel pressed for time.
So, evening rolls around and I can say I'm not horribly tired, stressed to pieces or have a bajillion things on my plate and "she canna take no more Captain!" DAMN I love having free time!
