brief link roundup
From before the trip:
From
fabucat: Elizabeth Keckley's biography online. Keckley was born a slave and later bought her freedom. She also worked as a dressmaker to Mary Todd Lincoln in the Lincoln White House. Not sure when/if I'll have time to read this but it looks interesting.
From
jlsjlsjls, purveyer of fine bookish links: Bat Secundo's podcast interview with Sarah Waters. Because more Sarah Waters is a Good Thing (side note: finally got "Night Watch" from the library!)
The Surviving Garments Database - oh, so many kinds of shiny and it's not even finished yet! Many of the entries are text not photos, but you get a wealth of information (where it was found, where it is now, primary fiber, type of garment, gender, catalog numbers, other references). Go play :)
Melanie Schuessler's Costumes - lots of the shiny!
