a VERY novel idea!

Check this out from [livejournal.com profile] earmarks: A vending machine that vends books! MUCH better for you than candy or soft drinks! I'd SO go for this in almost any/every public space (MVA - please????)

The writer of the article chose "The Night Watch" (this machine is in Ireland - I'm guessing Sarah Waters is popular enough to be included with the likes of Stephen King there, which is the only author I can make out in the picture). I'm still waiting for the local library to get their copy out of HQ for me - I'd be less irritated at the delay if I were just further down the hold list, but come on - it's been three weeks - release the damn book already!

Heck, I could have had my copy of "The Night Watch" in the mail to you as soon as I'd finished reading it ... I still can if your local is continuing to be a slowpoke.

Have forwarded the book vending machine link to my boss, with the suggestion that we could include a spine label and a floppy with the electronic catalogue copy in the package ... will be interesting to hear her reaction tomorrow morning ***GRIN***.

An interesting follow-up to this ... boss said she'd seen a movie rental vending machine in British Columbia. I did a Google and found this.

I also sent the link to K., my counterpart at Calgary Public Library ... she's now fantasizing about having vending machines as a book lending tool (swipe your library card and borrow a book). :-)
