It has recently come to my attention that I've come into a bit of extra money.

Most of this will go towards responsible things like bills and credit cards, but I'm going to set aside a little to spruce up my work wardrobe - specifically, to replace some rather shabby t shirts and cardigans with something a little more professional, a little more stylish (or, at the very least, a little less worn out).

I've read good reviews of H&M on a local fashion blog whose URL escapes me at the moment, but have never been to a nearby store. Specifically, I hear about fashion forward with good prices, but their site, while full of pretty pictures, has no online store and no examples of how the clothes look on the hanger/on ordinary mortals who aren't 5'10" and 110 lbs :P And let it be said that for a fashion nrrd, I really don't enjoy shopping if I have little/no chance of finding what I'm interested in.

So I put it to the forum - is it worth my effort to drag my lazy carcass out to one of the local shops or will I just be better off going to Target?

My first choice is always a Target, Wal-Mart, Shopko, etc. But as long as I can get Wrangler jeans and a decent t-shirt, I'm happy. :):)

For me, H&M is hit-or-miss, mostly miss. It may be worth it to stop in to one if you're in the area, but I haven't ever found it worth an extra trip all on its own. You might have more luck there than I do though, being short and round as I am.

I think a little of both!!!! Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Yeah, shop around, see what's out there, then you can make a better determination of what you'll like having. Invite your friends along (although not necessarily into the fitting rooms).

Here in Sweden we have a H&M in every town, even in a small town like mine. Here their reputation is to have the latest fashion at reasonable prices...but not the very best quality. Which of course doesn't matter if you are to change your wardrobe next time fashion changes.

Personally, I prefer Gudrun Sjöden (the USA store) online and Kappahl IRL, I doubt you got Kappahl over there though. They have reasoable quality in rather timeless designs...and my ever uniform: black jeans and black t-shirts ;)

LOVE H&M

Run, don't walk, to your nearest H&M. This is the 1 thing I still miss daily about London, wonderful wonderful H&M!!! When I went to NY last year I spent half my time in the H&M. So many pretty things...and they have Snoopy underwear! What more could a girl want! ;) It's esp. good for trendy things that you may not wear more than a year or two. General quality's excellent as well.
