Harry Potter ponderings

Still listening to the latest book and re-watched the first movie this evening, on something of an HP kick. Made me start wondering:

Where do wizarding kids go to school before the age of 11 when they're sent off to Hogwarts (or Beau Baton, or wherever)? Homeschooling? Do they go to muggle elementary school? They have to learn to read and write somewhere.....

From JK Rowling's FAQ:

What education do the children of wizards have before going to Hogwarts?

They are, as many of you have guessed, most often home educated. With very young children, as you glimpsed at the wizards' camp before the Quidditch World Cup in Goblet of Fire, there is the constant danger that they will use magic, whether inadvertently or deliberately; they cannot be trusted to keep their true abilities hidden. Even Muggle-borns like Harry attract a certain amount of unwelcome attention at Muggle schools by re-growing their hair overnight and so on.

So poor Molly Weasley had to home school all seven of her kids, including Fred & George.

Hmmm. I would have bet Draco Malfoy went to an evil Prep school - -

You'd think there would be such a thing -- he probably had an Evil Governess/Tutor though. ;-)

Perhaps Dr. Evil - I smell an Austin Powers/Harry Potter crossover.....

I am wondering who will play Mrs. Malfoy when the movies finally catch up to her. I was thinking Anne Coulter would be ideal, but I'm sure they're sticking with an English actress :P

LOL That would actually be very very funny!

I don't know if they're going to show her in Goblet of Fire or not. They've cut out so many other people it's probably that she won't show up until Half-Blood Prince if at all. Anne Coulter would be an interesting choice although I'd like to think even Lucius Malfoy has better taste. ;)

Or, as HP is the most equal saga I have read in a very long time, perhaps Mr and Mrs Weasley home shooled both, or they simply used magic. :)

Sadly, I think Arthur was too busy slaving away at the Ministry in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office to be home enough to home school except maybe on weekends. And they seem to be pretty strict about underage use of magic too.

Man, I bet she was THRILLED when they were finally old enough for Hogwarts!

And she had to deal with it for like 20 years since Bill is almost 11 years older than Ginny!
