"mental health" day

I got up this morning, showered, got dressed... and just couldn't face going into the office today, for a variety of reasons.

So, I changed into sweats and plunked myself down on the sofa with a book and a cup of hot chocolate. I promptly crashed - hard - for about three hours. I definitely, definitely needed that :)

I would have cheerfully spent the day on the sofa except for 1) odds and ends around the house that I needed to do, as long as I was there, and 2) the realization that braving shopping areas on a Thursday is infinitely less painful than braving same on a weekend....

Yes, in the interest of not looking like a bag of potatoes, I got new lingerie: mostly basics, these thin foam "contour" brassieres that offer shape and support. Also a couple of minimizers, because, indeed, most women's tailored shirts are made for a b-cup and it might be nice to be able to wear mine again :P They're all still bagged, in case I change my mind and decide that Xmas money would be better spent elsewhere, but I suspect I'll decide to keep most of it. T-shirts can wait - mine are still ratty but it's going to be too cold to wear them alone for several months yet.

Also cleaned up a bit for impending company, including taking a bedspread to the dry cleaner and patching another. Patching involved a run out to Hancocks because the iron-on patches I knew I had were nowhere to be found, though I did find that my sewing-machine oil had spilled and I had to clean that up....

So I guess I didn't relax much, but it was a change of pace. I will be very happy to go to work tomorrow and come directly home with no side trips tomorrow night!

Fencing: only 3 people. Went in, fenced them all. Won 2 bouts. Still not king....

Ooooh, playing hookey - this is a goooood thing. And like you say, you didn't get a lot of rest, but it sounds like it was relaxing and a welcome deviation from the norm.

And you won 2 out of 3 bouts? Kewl beans!

Congratulations on a successful expedition, and on having the wisdom to do it on a weekday. You've probably knocked a dozen sickdays and six months worth of stress off your life by not inflicting the weekend stampede on yourself. :p

Still not king....

But you're heir apparent. :-)

I know what you mean about the shopping. I think the EXACT SAME THOUGHTS on a regular basis.
